While spring of 2024 saw broker confidence soaring, the mood is less optimistic this spring, with interest rates and affordability keeping the market mostly flat and federal government policies making consumers hesitant about major financial decisions.

Though it remains to be seen how tariffs, layoffs, and federal policies will directly affect housing, market experts see a return to the basics as a smart strategy for agents.

Brokers surveyed in RISMedia’s recent Broker Confidence Index said they will focus on standard practices like rate buy-downs, finding trusted referral partners, or having buyers expand their search radius and criteria, while a little over one in 10 said they will focus on new constructions to help address inventory issues.

Traditional real estate coaches recommend basics like:

  • Getting into the office at the same time each day
  • Networking to add more people to your database
  • Working the phones whether you want to or not (*Make sure to comply with TCPA and confirm numbers are not on DNC lists)

Nextgen agents are leaning in on:

  • Mastering the art of search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Implementing new email campaigns
  • Embracing social media to build your personal brand

In short, real estate professionals say, put the strategies that work for you on steroids while viewing 2025 as a great rebuilding year in the areas of prospecting and special skill development. Use any down time to:

  • Build prospecting into your daily schedule
  • Learn new technologies
  • Consider adding niche licensing to your resume, or licensing in new areas such as appraising or home inspection
